Tennessee Players, Inc.

Mr. Tanaka authorized Tennessee Players, Inc., a non-profit arts organization, as his international representatve, partly because of his admiration for Dr. Albert Schweitzer, and knowing that Tennessee Players is working for world peace and the preservation of Dr. Schweitzer's profound philosophy of Reverence for Life. Tennessee Players' acclaimed Multimedia Musical Dramatization, Words of Albert Schweitzer and the Music of Bach, is being presented in churches and universities throughout the world. Sales of all prints benefit Tennessee Players.

The year Mr. Tanaka was born, 1947, Life magazine ran a major article on Dr. Schweitzer, headlined, "The Greatest Man in the World." In the 40's and 50's Japan published more books by and about Albert Schweitzer than most countries and when Tanaka was in elementary school he was greatly inspired by the life and work of Schweitzer and, like him, wanted to be a physician. He entered a high school attached to a medical university, but as so often happens his childhood idealism took another turn and his interest turned to art. His belief in Dr. Schweitzer's philosophy of Reverence for Life has been a great influence
in his art and his appreciation of classical music was influenced by Schweitzer's organ recordings of the music of Bach.
